KATANA-AIR EX System Program (Ver.1.03) HOW TO TELL THE VERSION Please check the current version of the system working on your KATANA-AIR EX before downloading the file. Turn all knobs all the way counterclockwise. Turn off the power of the KATANA-AIR EX. While holding down the [CH A] button and [CH B] button, turn the power on. When all buttons except the [POWER] blink twice slowly, release the [CH A] and [CH B] buttons. All buttons except the [POWER] rapidly blink twice. See the combination of the indicator color (red/green/orange) of the [BST/MOD] button, [DELAY/FX] button, and [REVERB] button to confirm the current version. *If it indicates the latest version, no update is necessary. UPDATE HISTORY [Ver.1.03] NOV 2024 Bug Fix Operation improved when using the BOSS TONE STUDIO app. WHAT YOU NEED FOR UPDATE KATANA-AIR EX USB cable (sold separately) Computer with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port (Windows/Mac) PRECAUTIONS Never apply this updater to any product other than the KATANA-AIR EX to avoid destroying data or the system program of other products. Never turn off the KATANA-AIR EX during the update process. If a power failure or other accident occurs while updating, the KATANA-AIR EX will not be able to start up with normal operating conditions. In this case, contact your nearest Roland Service Center or dealer for repair. Inquiries regarding the operating procedures for updating this system program are not supported. We appreciate your understanding. DOWNLOADING AND UNARCHIVING THE COMPRESSED FILE Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the screen and select the “I agree” check box. Click the “Download” button to download the system program (katana_air_ex_sys_v103.zip). Unarchive the downloaded file. Windows: Right-click the file and select “Extract All,” then click “Extract”. macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it. “katana_air_ex_sys_v103” folder appears. *DO NOT rename the files (KTNAIREX.BIN, ROMINFO.TXT) in the folder. UPDATE PROCEDURE *While updating, connect the included AC adapter or use brand new alkaline or fully charged Ni-MH batteries. Turn on the power while pressing the [CH A] and [PANEL] buttons. [CH A] and [CH B] buttons blink. Connect KATANA-AIR EX and a computer with a USB cable. [CH A] and [CH B] buttons change from blinking to lit, and the BOSS_KATANA drive appears on the computer screen. Copy the updater “KTNAIREX.BIN” and “ROMINFO.TXT” in the “katana_air_ex_sys_v103” folder to the level displayed immediately on accessing the BOSS_KATANA drive (the BOSS_KATANA drive's root directory). After copying is complete, eject the BOSS_KATANA drive according to your OS specs or settings. *For Mac, drag the BOSS_KATANA drive to the trash icon. Disconnect the USB cable from the USB jack on the KATANA-AIR EX. *Be sure to disconnect it from the USB jack on the KATANA-AIR EX unit. When the [PANEL] button blinks, press the [PANEL] button. Update begins. *While the update is in progress, the [BST/MOD], [DELAY/FX], and [REVERB] buttons sequentially light up in red, orange, and green. *Never turn off the KATANA-AIR EX's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise, the system program or the KATANA-AIR EX itself may be destroyed. *When the update is complete, the [BST/MOD], [DELAY/FX], and [REVERB] buttons turn a slowly blinking green. *If the update fails, the [BST/MOD], [DELAY/FX], and [REVERB] buttons blink rapidly. Press and hold the [POWER] button. [POWER] button changes from green to orange light to enter standby mode. Press and hold the [POWER] button to turn off the power. Make sure it is updated to the latest version. (b) You may make one copy of the SOFTWARE for backup purposes only (on floppy disk, magneto optical disk, DAT or the similar media), but you are prohibited to make any other copy. 2. COPYRIGHT The SOFTWARE and its copyrights are the property of Roland and are protected by all international copyright laws and treaties. Therefore, you must treat the SOFTWARE like any other copyrighted material (i.e., a book or a CD). All rights that are not provided for herein are reserved by Roland. 3. OTHER RESTRICTIONS (a) You shall not modify, change, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE and the copyright notice and copyrighted logo. Unauthorized copying, uploading to another network, distributing, modifying and/or attaching this software to other media or any other sales item is expressly forbidden. (b) You shall not loan, rent, lease, sublicense or transfer the SOFTWARE, either in whole or in part, to any third party. But you may permanently transfer the SOFTWARE and accompanying printed materials provided you retain no copies of the Software and recipient agrees to the terms of this License Agreement. If the SOFTWARE has been updated or upgraded, any transfer of the SOFTWARE must include the most recent update and all prior versions. (c) If this SOFTWARE contains multiple templates of media (such as floppy disks and CD-ROM) and these media contain the same software, you may use only the one form of media that is appropriate for your computer. You shall not use the remaining form(s) of media on another computer. (d) You may not use the Software from multiple locations of a multi-user or networked system at any time. 3.2 Open source software and other third party software (a) The SOFTWARE may use open source software and other third party software (herein referred to as "OSS, etc."). (b) The OSS, etc. in the case of the preceding paragraph shall be subject to the OSS, etc. license (herein referred to as "OSS License"), and you shall comply with the OSS License. (c) If there are any differences between the terms of this License Agreement and the OSS License, the OSS License shall prevail and the terms of this License Agreement shall not apply. 4. NO WARRANTY Roland makes no warranty, either expressed or implied, with respect to any of the software, including, without limitation, any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. 5. NO LIABILITY Roland can not reply to inquiries regarding this system software updater. Please read the instructions completely, and please note that you should use the SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. In no event shall Roland be liable to end-users for any damages whatsoever, including but not limited to financial damages for any loss of profits or information arising from the use of, or inability to use this product. The foregoing provision is effective even if Roland has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Even if the SOFTWARE has any material, verifiable, and reproducible program errors, Roland shall have no liability to modify such errors. 6. TERMINATION OF THE LICENSE Roland reserves the right to terminate this License Agreement if you fail to comply with any of the terms of this License Agreement. Upon such termination, you shall immediately stop using the SOFTWARE. 7. GENERAL (a) Any provision of this Agreement which is prohibited or unenforceable in any jurisdiction shall be ineffective to the extent of such prohibition or unenforceability without affecting, impairing or invalidating the remaining provisions hereof. (b) This License Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of State of California without reference to the principles of conflicts of laws.
