GX-1 System Program ( Ver.1.02 )


How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your GX-1 before downloading the archive file.
  1. Turn on the power.
  2. The version information appears in the lower right corner of the startup display.
    If this shows the latest version (Version 1.02 or later), there's no need to update your GX-1.
  3. After verifying the displayed version, turn off the power.

What you will need to update your unit
  • GX-1
  • USB Type-C® cable(Do not use a USB cable designed only for charging, as such cables cannot transmit data.)
    * The update is carried out with the unit and the computer connected via USB.
    * Please have on hand a USB cable that has one of the USB connectors just described and that is capable of being connected to the computer you're using.
  • Computer (Windows or Mac) equipped with a USB port compliant with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0.

Caution when performing the update
  • This program is exclusively for the GX-1. Never attempt to use it with any other product.
  • If you update on the normal mode of GX-1 against the correct procedure, this update data may destroy the system program.
  • Never power-off your GX-1 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the GX-1 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Downloading and unarchiving the compressed file
  1. Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the screen and select the "I agree" check box.
  2. Click the "Download File" button to download the system program (gx1_sys_v102.zip).
  3. Unarchive the downloaded file.
    • Windows: Right-click the file and select "Extract All," then click "Extract".
    • Mac: Double-click the file to unzip it.
    GX1ROM.BIN inside the expanded folder is the system program.

Procedure for the update
[Caution]
  • You must not rename the extracted file.
  • Never turn off the unit power while the update is in progress. Doing so may cause malfunction. If such malfunction occurs, charged repairs may be necessary. You will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
 
Please update your unit according to the following procedure.
  1. Hold down [ ENTER ] button and turn on the power.
    * Continue to hold down ENTER until "GX-1 Updater" appears on the display.
  2. Connect the computer to the GX-1's USB port by a USB cable.
  3. Open the "GX-1" drive folder in your personal computer.
    With Windows
    Within My Computer (or Computer), open "GX-1" (or Removable Disk).
    With macOS
    On the desktop, open the "GX-1" icon.
  4. Download the file named "gx1_sys_v102.zip".
    Please open/extract the downloaded "gx1_sys_v102.zip" file on your computer to get the update file in the "gx1_sys_v102" folder.
    Copy (drag and drop) all files in the "gx1_sys_v102" folder into the root directory of the "GX-1" drive.
  5. After the copy has been completed, unmount or remove the drive on your computer.
    With Windows
    Right-click on the "GX-1" icon in My Computer (or the "Removable Disk (*:)" icon) and execute "Eject."
    With macOS
    Drag the "GX-1" icon to the Trash icon in the Dock.
  6. The update process will start.
  7. The message "COMPLETE" will appear on the display when the update process completes.
  8. Turn the GX-1 power off.
    Follow the procedure for verifying the version to verify that the version has been updated.
